The Custom Synesthesia Painting

August 12, 2019

So you want to get a custom synesthesia painting but don’t know where to start. It’s a very thoughtful gift so of course you want it to look perfect! But if chromesthesia is someone else’s vision of sound, how can you guarantee you’ll get the painting you want? Rest assured, I got you covered. Commissioning a synesthesia painting with The Jenny Kenny allows you to be as involved or absent as you would like in the creative process. In all of the stages below, I invite you to be present in the creation of your painting, but feel free to opt out at any point and the final painting will simply be mailed to you when completed.

Once you order a commissioned synesthesia painting, I will spend a few minutes listening and then drawing a quick sketch of my initial visions of the music. This allows you to get a general idea of the painting’s layout, colors, and movement. Please note that it is a rough sketch and does not depict the dedication and detail I will put into your finalized commissioned synesthesia painting.

As a dancer does not perform the same movement at every stage of a song, neither does a synesthete only see one image when listening to a song. This means a single song can have countless variations of visual composition. My initial sketch will depict just one of those images. If you feel the composition does not work with the design of your space, I will redo a sketch up to 2 times (allowing you to choose from 3 designs).

When you approve of the sketch, I will begin to thoroughly study your song. At this stage, I typically listen to the song on repeat, focusing on the various instruments, tones, vocals, etc. in more detail. This allows me to fully visualize the music as I paint the song. It typically takes a few days to complete the painting.

I will then send you a final draft and let you approve or request minor adjustments in the commissioned painting before it gets mailed to you. Some customers find it helpful to see what the painting will look on the wall, so you’re welcome to email me a picture of your space and I will superimpose my painting in the picture to give you a visual. Please mark the wall with the dimensions of the painting you ordered so the size will be correct in the mockup.

After the final image is approved, I will digitally sign the artwork and send to my highly-vetted printer to produce and send you your quality commissioned synesthesia painting. Depending on how involved you choose to be in the creative process, your painting will usually be shipped within 12-14 business days from the date of purchase.

As an added bonus and appreciation for commissioning a synesthesia painting with The Jenny Kenny, I will email you a signed digital copy of the artwork for your personal use. Ready to get started? Click here to order your personal synesthesia painting!
